My Profile – Tips and Examples

Your Profile is not a CV, personal statement or letter in support of an application. It is an attention-grabber. You can send CVs etc. later when a school that you want makes contact. So, keep it punchy, keep it focussed. Recruitment is very competitive for applicants and, increasingly, for schools.

Our hands-on experience - Teacher, Headteacher, Director of Teacher Training, Recruiter, and Government Adviser - tells us Headteachers need to act promptly when recruiting and want to get a quick initial impression. If they like what they read, they will fall over themselves to get in touch!

IMPORTANT: Maximise your word count whilst being succinct

Use phrases not sentences. Use semi-colon (;) to separate ideas. In other words, these are bullet points with a semi-colon instead of a bullet!
...and check your spelling!!

Example 1: Trainee Teacher

Worked in industry for 4 years; TA (part-time) for two years; Complete PGSE in June 2018; Currently on second placement (11-16 mixed comprehensive); Potentially challenging intake; Lessons are “thoroughly prepared and well-structured to meet the needs of a wide ability range”(school mentor); Subject knowledge deemed a strength; Teach KS3,4; Successful first placement (11-18 mixed comprehensive); Some A level experience; Mentor praised my work with high ability pupils; My behaviour management is good, based on high expectations, consistent reinforcement of rules and expectations. Qualities: Reflective learner, good listener – act on advice, use data to inform planning, mark assiduously.

Example 2 Primary Teacher

3 years teaching experience in 2 schools; Experience of KS1 &KS2; Currently Y6 teacher and Coordinator for KS2 English; have run reading scheme, breakfast club for Pupil Premium, school swimming team; Lesson observations always good/outstanding; Mentor to NQT and Teach First trainee; studying for diploma in Maths; Ofsted commended me for behaviour management and more able; led various staff INSETs (reading recovery, SEN, working with families etc.); Use data effectively for own class (good progress measures); Keen musician (Piano grade 5); Committed, enthusiastic and energetic; Reflective practitioner with ability to lead teams successfully.

Example 3: Experienced Secondary Teacher
